I Thought About a Website for a Long Time
For about a year and a half, I had been thinking about creating a website for my business.
It was never quite the right time to make the leap. I had plenty of other priorities competing for my attention, including family commitments and travel, and my focus was on staying connected with my customers and continuing to serve them well.
I did not want a website to become one more thing I had to manage simply because I felt like I was supposed to have one.
Eventually, I reached a point where I knew I wanted to make it happen. I also knew I wanted to do my research first.
I Wanted a Website That Could Actually Grow With Me
Once I started seriously researching website platforms, I made a list of the things I wanted to be able to do.
- Give my customers a central place to find information and resources
- Eventually have the ability to offer customer logins and additional resources
- Have an email marketing option
- Explore SMS integration with the tools I was already using
- Understand the limits and capacity around emails, texts, pages, contacts, and storage
- Have the ability to create my own online store
- Build and update the website without needing to be a professional web designer
- Have flexibility to keep adding and changing things as my business evolved
I was also thinking about how a website would fit into the systems and processes I already had in place. I knew moving everything over would take time, so I wanted a platform that gave me room to make that transition at my own pace.
I Did the Research Before I Made the Investment
I looked at several website companies and spent time reviewing their information, FAQs, features, pricing, and capabilities.
I was not looking for the platform with the longest list of features. I was trying to figure out which option made sense for the way I actually run my business.
I eventually joined a webinar with the Oh My Hi team to learn more about the platform and the different plan options. Seeing Becky Launder, co-founder of Oh My Hi and Modern Direct Seller, share the platform, explain the possibilities, and talk about what they were building helped bring everything together for me.
The decision was not based on one single feature. It was the combination of what I needed, the flexibility I wanted, the pricing options, the support available, and the feeling that I could continue growing into the platform.
If you are researching website platforms yourself, you can take a look at Oh My Hi and explore the available options here.
The Variety of Plans Gave Me Options
Oh My Hi offers different plan options, including monthly and annual choices, which I appreciated because not every business is in the same place.
I chose the plan that made the most sense for me and what I was ready to invest at the time.
I also appreciate having choices as my needs change. A website is not a one-time project for me. It is something I continue to build, update, and refine.
I am fully committed to developing my own skills, using the tools available to me, and putting in the time to figure things out. Having a platform with options gives me the space to do that without feeling like I have to build everything at once.
I Liked That Oh My Hi Already Understood Businesses Like Mine
When I first started researching, I knew my website would initially be focused heavily on my direct-sales business.
Oh My Hi already had templates designed with social sellers and direct sellers in mind, which gave me a useful starting point.
I also liked knowing I was not limited to that world. The platform has templates and resources for a variety of businesses and organizations, including authors, health and wellness businesses, nonprofits, and people selling products or services.
Having that broader flexibility matters to me because businesses change. I wanted something that could support where I was starting while leaving room for where I might go next.
Support and Learning Resources Matter to Me
Fun fact: my professional background is in conversion rate optimization, so learning and understanding how things work is especially important to me.
One of the things I appreciate most is being able to learn in different ways, depending on what works best for me. I can read instructions when I want step-by-step information. I can follow a tutorial when seeing something demonstrated makes more sense. I can also join a live support call when I want to listen, learn, and ask questions.
Oh My Hi offers live support calls, and those calls are recorded for replay if I cannot join at the scheduled time. I can also send in a question when I run into something I need help with.
Having those different options matters to me because I genuinely like learning in different ways. I appreciate being able to use the approach that works best for what I am trying to figure out at the time.
My Website Has Become a Place for More Than I Originally Imagined
One of my original goals was to create a central place where my customers could find educational information and resources without having to scroll through old social media posts or search through text messages.
I have been able to build so much more than I originally imagined.
My website now includes my Homebase Experience content for my direct selling business (Norwex and Zyia Activewear), blog posts, customer resources, Homebase Post, and I can create additional tools for me to stay connected with my customers as well. I have continued adding pages, changing existing pages, testing ideas, and figuring out what will be most useful.
The website is still an ever-living project for me. I like that.
One thing I originally hoped to have was a place where customers could log in and access additional resources. I have not built that piece yet, but it remains a significant item on my personal wish list. I am comfortable with that because I chose a platform with room for me to keep learning and building instead of expecting myself to have everything figured out on day one.
I Appreciate That the Platform Keeps Evolving
Another thing I have noticed since joining is that Oh My Hi has continued adding features and integrations.
Some of the newer possibilities were not part of my original decision-making process. Having additional tools become available over time gives me more opportunities to think about what could be useful for my businesses and my customers.
Those possibilities are not limited to direct sales. I can see the value for entrepreneurs, small-business owners, authors, creators, service providers, and other people who want a website that can become a useful part of their business.
So, Why Did I Choose Oh My Hi?
Ultimately, I was looking for a website platform that gave me a practical combination of flexibility, reasonable pricing, templates that gave me a starting point, room to grow, email options, learning resources, and support.
I also wanted a place I could make my own and continue developing as I learned more about what my customers needed.
I spent a long time thinking about whether I really needed a website. Once I decided the answer was yes, I wanted to make the decision thoughtfully.
Doing that research helped me feel confident about choosing Oh My Hi. Using the platform since then has given me even more reasons to appreciate the decision.
