More Than Just Mail: Why I Created These Card Collections

More than ten years ago, I moved over a thousand miles away from my family and friends. Not a quick drive home for the weekend. Not a “see you next month” kind of distance. Real distance. The kind that makes you realize very quickly that relationships do not maintain themselves. Especially when life gets busy, schedules get complicated, and you can not physically show up for every moment anymore.

In the last few years, I have learned a lot about communication — the right ways, the wrong ways, and how much effort healthy relationships truly take. I am still learning and practicing what I have learned. I am not perfect and never will be, but I have gained new insights when it comes to communication. Life gets busy, seasons change, and sometimes time passes faster than we realize. But one thing I have continued to come back to is how important it is to make people feel seen, valued, remembered, and loved.

It became clear early on that if I wanted the people I loved to truly feel loved and cared for, I needed to be intentional about it. I had to put in the extra effort.

More than 10+ years of miss moments. Birthdays (including milestone birthdays), anniversaries, promotions, graduations, celebrations, new babies, difficult seasons, losses, and unexpected life changes. Some moments were exciting and joyful. Others were heavy and heartbreaking. And while a text message or social media comment can be nice, it never quite felt the same as something tangible someone could hold onto.

This is just a small part of what inspired The Homebase Post.

For me, a card has always meant more. There is something incredibly personal about opening your mailbox and finding something thoughtful waiting for you — especially in a world where most mail tends to be bills, advertisements, or reminders of responsibilities and “adulting.” A handwritten card slows things down for a second. It says, I thought about you. I took time for you. You matter to me.

Over the last decade, both personally and professionally, I have seen how meaningful connection truly is. The smallest gestures often become the most memorable ones. A card may seem simple, but during both planned celebrations and unexpected moments, it can have a lasting impact.

While I only have a few collections launched at this time (May 2026) – the intention is real. For all of life’s moments — planned and unplanned.

Whether you are celebrating someone’s biggest milestone, encouraging a friend through a difficult season, or simply reminding someone they are loved from miles away, my hope is that these cards help create connection in a way that feels personal, thoughtful, and genuine.

Because sometimes the smallest thing in the mailbox can mean the most.

I would love to hear something that you have celebrated in your own life in the last 5 months!
