Stainless Steel Straws: A Simple Eco-Friendly Swap That Helps You Stay Hydrated Daily

I did not expect something as small as a straw to change one of my daily habits—but here we are.

Several years ago, there came a point where I realized I just was not drinking enough throughout the day. Water, flavored drinks, anything. I would forget, get busy with work, and then all of a sudden, I am more than thirsty.

Once I started using reusable straws (some that Norwex sold years ago but were limited edition), I noticed a few things. I enjoyed taking a quick break to go grab water or a flavored water packet. I was full/comfortable because I was staying hydrated. In general, this shifted my mindset to carry and bring a water bottle with me wherever I am.

To this day, I use the reusable straws and the Norwex Stainless Steel Straws for flavored water, lemonade, or fun/special drinks! It sounds simple (it really is though), but visually seeing a straw in my cup encourages me to drink more water consistently. Without actually having to think about it.

The Problem Most of Us Don’t Think About

A lot of us are trying to drink more water or stay hydrated. But we do not always set ourselves up for it to be easy.

On top of that, there is the constant cycle of:

  • Grabbing disposable straws when we are out and about
    • There are times when I am out at a restaurant and prefer to use a straw and that is okay. I am more conscious about using straws (or not) especially if I am grabbing some food / drink quickly and then heading home. Starting with small impactful changes does add up and make a difference.
  • Tossing them without thinking
  • Or just going without and drinking less overall

It is not something most people stress about—but it does add up over time (habit, waste of resources, waste of money).

The Simple Swap That Actually Sticks

That is where stainless steel straws come in.

What I love about this set is that is you can travel with it as well. A small carrying case and straw cleaner in addition to two straws, so you always have a clean one ready to go.

Maybe you leave sets of these straws in the car if you are a family on-the-go travelling for sports, activities, or enjoy family road trips. Dinners out are not always planned and something everyone in the family needs food in a pinch.

Think about it this way. You are not constantly buying, tossing, or thinking about replacements.

You just use them, rinse them, and reuse them while taking care of the planet.

Why It Matters More Than You’d Think

This is one of those small changes that checks a lot of boxes without feeling like effort:

  • Encourages better habits → I genuinely drink more throughout the day
  • Reduces waste → No more single-use straws
  • Saves money over time → One purchase vs. constant repurchasing
  • Feels easy → No learning curve, no extra steps

And if you’re someone who’s trying to make more sustainable choices but doesn’t want to overhaul your entire lifestyle overnight—this is a really good place to start.
